Join Our Mission to Make the World a Better Place.
In 2021, our staff member Ani was approached by a child who had recently learned that his sister was battling cancer. He wanted to find a way to help, and together they made a goal of raising $1,000 for OHSU Doernbecher. With the help of our amazing families, kids, and staff, we were able to raise over $3,000 for kids in need and lay the foundation for an amazing club for years to come. Today, Cares Club consists of a variety of projects that maintain the original idea that kids can do anything they put their minds to. All Cares Club projects are kid-initiated and staff-supported, with the hope that they will be able to see first-hand the impact they can make on their world.
Our kids pay attention to the world around them, which means a lot of the work we do keeps up with current events. In the past, we've hosted fundraisers to support causes like the Oregon Humane Society, OHSU Doernbecher, and families affected by wildfires!
From toy drives to school supply drives, our kids love to donate needed items to those who can benefit from them most. Some of our favorite projects have included a "Ruby Bridges Book Drive" for Black History Month, a "Lego Luau" to collect Legos for kids at OHSU Doernbecher, and a School Supply and Coat Drive for Rose Haven.
At SCCA, we understand that in order to make a difference in our world, we have to be dedicated to learning as much as we can about it. Whether it's AAPI Heritage Month Trivia, watching documentaries about Climate Change, or learning new signs in American Sign Language, our kids are committed to curiosity.
Cares Club's projects strive to create safe spaces for all people, and ensure that our kids learn to treat everything with love. We stress the importance of good communication, connection with others, appreciating various perspectives, and community-building skills.
Building community care is a powerful thing-and one that every Cares Clubber understands comes with great responsibility. We encourage our kids to have accountability for their own actions, and do their best to hold each other accountable in kind and helpful ways.
Respectful, responsible kids are aware that making waves in the world sometimes requires going against the grain. We encourage our kids to be free-thinkers, ask plenty of questions about the world around them, and take the necessary action to help form the world they want to live in.
Everyone! Cares Club is hosted by Ani and various other staff members every Wednesday afternoon. If your child has an interest in creating powerful community connections, chances are, they're already here! Updates for Cares Club Events can regularly be found on our Instagram Page, or via email. Please feel free to reach out to Ani, Evan, or Alissa if you have any questions!
